One reason I'm glad that I'm vegetarian:

Company Orders Largest Recall of Ground Beef

A California meat company on Sunday issued the largest beef recall in history, 143 million pounds, some of which was used in school lunch programs, Department of Agriculture officials announced.

The recall by the Westland/Hallmark Meat Company, based in Chino, Calif., comes after a widening animal-abuse scandal that started after the Humane Society of the United States distributed an undercover video on Jan. 30 that showed workers kicking sick cows and using forklifts and electric shocks to force them to walk.

I have the day off so I stayed in bed until 9 watching the TODAY show which showed tape of the abuse. While I'm not a vegetarian, I don't eat very much red meat and when I do, not very large servings. Still, that footage gave me pause. I can't for the life of me understand the minds of people who treat animals that way.
At least in Japan they treat their beef nicely.

I hate thinking about the way animals get treated in 'modern' meat-factories. Hate, hate, hate.

Brilliant.

Now I'll be thinking about that photo whenever entering a hot tub. And I'll be thinking about septuagenarians and sagging skin all day.

I do feel bad for the chickens in the photo, though. No one thought of offering them little champagne glasses.

that picture is so repulsive and wonderful at the same time. I can't stop looking at it!
